Marine Immersion certification increases application flexibility for AccurioPress users

Konica Minolta has announced that two of its AccurioPress digital production printers have been successfully certified as compliant with BS (British Standard) 5609 – the internationally recognized standard forprinted pressure-sensitive, adhesive-coated labels for marine use.The certification means that users of theAccurioPress C6100 and AccurioPress C3080 can now supply self-adhesive labels for goods due for marine shipment.

The Marine Immersion certification has been awarded specifically for the combination of Konica Minolta’s digital presses with media supplier Avery Dennison’s AA449 Lasercopy PET Matt White S4700 INC – HF100 label stock. The BS 5609 standard requires testing of base label materials as well as print permanence on that label material in harsh marine and weather conditions. Printed labels must be able to survive and be legible after three months exposure in saltwater, as well as withstanding tests for abrasion resistance.

Compliance with BS 5609 is a pre-requisite for self-adhesive drum labels to meet Merchant Shipping Regulations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification (GHS) Standards. It ensures that, should an oil or chemical drum be lost at sea during ocean transportation, the key identifiers of the barrel remain legible for long periods.

The Konica Minolta AccurioPress C6100 digital production press delivers outstanding print quality and color consistency on a wide range of diverse media, including up to 400 gsm papers duplex, long sheets up to 1300mm and 762mm duplex, and runs 100ppm on all medias. The AccurioPress C3080 is a versatile and reliable production printer, capable of printing up to 81 pages per minute, and with extended capabilities such as printing on a long sheet of 762mm, and envelope printing.

As well as the AccurioPress C6100 and C3080 digital presses, Konica Minolta’s AccurioLabel 190 digital label press has also been certified for BS 5609 with the Avery Dennison AA449 Lasercopy media, giving specialist label customers access to the marine shipment market.
